The Ministry of Education owns the teacher trainees an arrears of six-month allowance which will be paid in full by September 2021.
Akwasi Kwarteng, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, confirmed this on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem show.
Teacher Trainees in Colleges of Education in the country have not been paid their allowances for the past six months and must of the students are not happy about the situation.
Every trainee receives a monthly allowance of GH₵400, where GH₵196 is deducted by the school as feeding grants, GH₵204 is then paid to the students for their upkeep, which totals an amount of GH₵1,224 for the 6 month period.
Bernard Brefo Frimpong P.R.O for the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana, who also spoke on the show, said the ministry assured them of full payment in July. However, that did not come light.
So Mr Frimpong, stressed that the allowance is long over due, therefore the ministry should honour the full payment of the arrears since most of the students are truly suffering.
The level 400 trainee’s will go for their out program very soon. How will they survive this new journey of mentorship without the almighty ALLAWA?
Mr Kwarteng said the Government has scheduled a timeline to clear all the outstanding arrears by the end of September
