Just In: NDC Assin North MP Loses Seat As Court Orders For Fresh Election

NDC Member of Parliament James Quayson has lost the dual citizenship case filed against him.

The Assin North Member of Parliament has been stripped of his seat after losing the court case.

He was sued at the Cape Coast High Court for having dual nationality, something that goes against the law of Ghana which barres people with dual citizenship from occupying public office unless he or she denounces the foreign citizenship.

James Quayson was found guilty of having both Canadian and Ghanaian citizenship.

The court has cancelled the parliamentary elections in the Assin North constituency in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

The presiding judge, Justice Kwasi Boakye, ordered for fresh elections to be conducted in the constituency.
