Gov’t to tax calls on Whatsapp, Fb & others quickly – Minister


The Minister of Communications and Digitization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has disclosed that the federal government is contemplating producing income from calls on social media platforms.

This, she mentioned, is being finished with collaboration from the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Income Authority (GRA).

Addressing the Cellular Expertise for Growth (MT4D), Ursula hinted that stakeholders within the telecommunication sector, particularly Cellular Community Operators (MNOs), can be engaged on how authorities can shore up its income by taxing OTT.

We’re decided to speed up using digital know-how, purposes and companies in any respect ranges, construct and shield our digital infrastructure, and improve the capability and digital expertise acquisition of our youth. 

As you might remember, it’s only by way of tax income mobilization that such investments and extra may be funded.

“At the moment, the federal government is dropping big revenues from the MNOs to OTT digital service suppliers as conventional sources of telecoms income like voice declines. 

It will be significant that we now have a frank, open dialogue on this, and discover different sources of income inside the digital companies house to enhance authorities home income mobilization,” Mrs Owusu-Ekuful mentioned.
