Strike Continues As Teacher Union Leaders Boycott Negotiation Meeting- Details

Management of the putting instructor unions on Tuesday July 12 walked out of the assembly with authorities officers that was to debate the problems that resulted within the strike, TV3’s Daniel Opoku who has been observing developments with the instructor unions reported.

Presidents of the Nationwide Affiliation of Academics (NAGRAT) and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Angel Carbonou and Thomas Musah respectively, who attended the assembly in Accra, instructed journalists after stepping out that the federal government’s representatives had been insisting that the unions known as off the strike earlier than negotiations begin.

They stated they discovered this as a betrayal of belief therefore, their choice to boycott the assembly.

Thomas Musah stated “I think that what has happened today is very unfortunate. What we can say now is that our negotiation has come inconclusively and we are still on strike”

For his half, Mr Carbonou stated “They’re indicating and asking us to name off our strike earlier than negotiations start. So all it means is that the federal government aspect will not be able to proceed negotiation except the instructor unions name off strike.

“They have held all organized labour unions hostage and this is a betrayal of trust because the understanding we had was that organized labour has been convened for us to find solution to the issue of COLA. Right now, since we are undesirable, we think that before they even walk us out of the meeting, we are walking out of the meetings ourselves.”

On Monday, 4th July 2022, the 4 (4) Unions in Schooling, specifically GNAT, NAGRAT, Academics’ and Instructional Employees’ Union (TEWU) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana, withdrew their companies in all of the Pre-Tertiary academic house, to again their demand for the Value-of-Residing Allowance (COLA).

This concerned each Instructing and Non-Instructing employees.
